What is an Air Conditioning inspection?
A TM44 inspection is a detailed assessment of the efficiency and performance of air conditioning systems in buildings. It is a legal requirement in the UK if a buildings air cooling system has a total power output of 12kw or more.
Who can perform an inspection?
TM44 inspections must be carried out by qualified and accredited energy assessors who are registered with bodies such as CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers).
What happens after a TM44 inspection?
Following the inspection, the assessor will issue a TM44 report detailing the findings, including any recommendations for improving energy efficiency. Accompanying this will be a certificate which will be placed on the National Energy Certificate Register. This will be valid for five years.
Why should I get a TM44 inspection?
There a multiple benefits to having a TM44 inspection completed:
1) Legal Compliance and avoidance of fines. All premises with a combined Air Conditioning energy output of 12kw or more are required to have a TM44 which must be renewed every five years (as per the Energy Performance of Building Regulation 2007). Not being compliant can result in unlimited fines.
2) The purpose of the TM44 inspection is to improve environmental sustainability. Older systems are often inefficient and create unnecessary emissions. By following the recommendations of our reports, companies can improve their environmental impact.
3) Often by following report recommendations businesses can make improvements in the efficiency of their systems. Considering that a 12kw system costs on average £4,000 to run annually, this can result in significant savings for your business and often pays for the initial outlay of the report.
